Issue adding rows to a chart in Numbers

I have a chart, accessing data from 3 columns in a table in Numbers. It has around 160 rows now and rows are added regularly. Up to now, I have been able to Edit Data References successfully, clicking on the chart and dragging the coloured columns down to cover the new rows. Suddenly, the dragging has become unstable with columns no longer acting in unison, breaking loose from the anchor at the top row or opening gaps to miss random rows.

Any thoughts on why this is happening when it has not happened on this chart previously?

Hard to tell what is going on. I know if when editing data references you click on cells vs dragging the boxes it can do some weird things and get frustrating after that. I've not seen what you describe but maybe it is related to this.

With a series on the chart selected (not editing references), look a the Series tab in the formatting sidebar. At the top is a box for "value" that should have the range being used for your data (scatter chart will have X and Y ranges). Click in the box. I suspect it has a list of ranges vs it being one single range. Delete all that is there then select the range in your table (or type it in). Do the same for the other series.

I hope that fixes it for you.

Thank you for your replies. I too have no idea why my updates worked previously but have stalled now. I have tried the suggested solutions and nothing worked except deleting the whole chart and starting afresh.

I will see what happens when I want to add further rows. The chart shows my blood pressure so, if my frustration continues, maybe I will need a new scale! 😀
