Command N not working

When I updated my MacBook Pro to Monterrey (OS 12.0) the Command + N keyboard shortcut stoped working.

It used to open a new window, now it opens a new tab. Command + T also opens a new tab as it has always done.

In order to open a new window, I now must hit Option + Command + T.

How do I switch it back?

There is a setting in General System Preferences to prefer Tabs instead of windows. Try setting that to never.

Some apps have independent settings for that.
