unable to use aiplay

I recently reset my AppleTV as I was getting messages that I was losing ethernet connection. As it turns out, reseting was probably not necessary, the problem was probably due to the cable not being fully inserted into the port on the AppleTV. Now, I am unable to airplay from my iMac to the AppleTV. When I click on the icon on my computer, it shows Airpplay off then changes to say looking for appletv, in gray letters and I cannot turn it on. There is an option to airplay to home theater, which was not there before. I suspect that I made an error in settings. Please help

Verify your settings for AirPlay on the Apple TV box, that it is turned on.

Verify the name of your Apple TV box (also listed in the AirPlay settings), as that name is what you should select on the Mac.

Verify that both devices are connected to the same home network.
