Unable to type in password on MacBook Pro

Hi, I am unable to type in my password on the login screen. When I try it’s hit or miss on the keyboard. When it starts in Recovery Assistant it says “If you were unable to use your keyboard to type your password, it may not be compatible with FileVault. Reboot and try entering your password with another keyboard, or disable FileVault on your Mac.” Well I can’t get into the computer to do anything so not sure how that would work. Thanks for any suggestions!
