Multiple Calendar unwanted alerts by email for same event

When I set an alert sent by email in Calendar I always receive multiple emails for that same event. This has been happening for years on my MacBook Pro. I thought there was something wrong with the computer. It was so annoying, I stopped using Calendar.

I bought a new MacBook Pro 14” and gave Calendar a new try but Calendar continues to send multiple alerts by email for the same event. I use Calendar only on my computer. It doesn’t sync anywhere else.

Does anybody have a solution?

Thanks

Hi veda1,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re receiving email alerts for Calendar events. We’re happy to help.

You can disable this alert type by changing it to one of the other “custom” options. You can find steps for doing so under “Set an alert for an event” here: Set event alerts and receive notifications in Calendar on Mac - Apple Support

We hope that helps.

Take care.

seems a fix. so far so good for me.

sync your Apple calendar with your Goog calendar, if you haven't already.

Make all your cal entries in either cal app. Email and/or plain alerts, whatever you favor.

Email alerts can only be set from Apple cal. But you knew that.

If you've never sunc (giggle) the cals, they sync pretty quick, minutes at most. If you prefer, just refresh either, Cmd/R.

Cntrl click (right click) on a sync'd Calendar name from the upper left corner list in Apple Calendar.

Select "get Info". There is a check box in the window that says "ignore alerts". Check it.

I know, sounds insane.

Now just wait for nothing to happen.

Or test, as I did. Made new events 2 days from now on 2 ignored cals and 2 on unignored (ok, this may not be an actual word, but you get the idea) cals. The ignored sent me 1 email. The unignored (again) sent multiples.

If you're one of those people who wants nothing to do with big bad googoo, get over it.

You're welcome. Back to work you lazy dawg!

Thanks for the suggestion. I do wish to set alerts sent by email. I just want one alert sent by email per single event as it should do.

It seems like alert by email is not well known or used. It looks like this issue is a bug in Calendar. Could someone who uses it confirm that she/he doesn't receive multiple emails per single event?
