Systems preferences not recognising administrative password

I am having a lot of trouble trying to download Monterrey which will only do so in safe mode. Systems preferences does not recognise my administrative password where I want to select automatically update, even though the password is accepted when log in,

If this is an enterprise machine and bound to MDM, etc..contact the IT or administrator for support

Try a Safeboot and initiate the download

Thanks for getting back.

I eventually got Monterey downloaded after countless safe mode attempts

Still have the problem of unlocking preferences in Systems Preferences (so for example can't put the correct time/location on my computer)

The advice given was to update (which obviously I have done) and don't use a blank password to log in when the computer starts (which I don't).

So still very stuck. Computer is only 2019, but almost resigned to using a suboptimal machine.

Do System Preferences Open...(?)
