No sound when receiving text

My new, just out of the box yeserday, iPhone 13 Pro does not make a sound when I receive a text. My last phone, a 7 Plus, did the same thing and it is one of the reasons why I replaced it.

In Settings under Notifications, I have "Allow Notifications" ON (it is green) for messages. The button on the side is NOT turned to silent.

When I had this problem with my 7 Plus my friend sitting next to me did not believe me. He sent a text from his iPhone and there was no sound. What am I doing wrong here? What do you do when you have Allow Notifications checked and the phone is not in silent mode?

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 15

Hello Lovegums,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are not being notified when receiving a text, even though you have sound turned on, and Allow Notifications is turned on. We can understand why you'd reach out for a solution.

You mentioned that "Allow Notifications" is enabled, if you scroll down, do you have a sound chosen? Check at Settings > Notifications > Messages > Sounds.

If a sound is already selected, try a different sound and test.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If still no sound, does this happen with all SMS/MMS text messages and iMessages, or only some? Also, have you checked to ensure no Focus settings are impeding the notifications from coming through? More on that can be found here.

Use Focus on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, what version of iOS are you currently running?

Cheers!

Hi Notifications is turned on and I have tried other sounds. I have been trying to pay attention to the patterns and when I am or am not hearing sound.

I have an Apple Watch and get a tap on the wrist when I get a message some of the time, no sound on phone it seems. When I use my wireless earpiece it does not make a sound which makes sense as long as the watch pings me, which it does not always seem to do. I had a friend with an iphone help me troubleshoot...it seems that when the home screen is locked (which is most of the time) it does not make a sound when there is a message. This is dumb because if my phone is on the coffee table and the screen is locked and someone texts me, I kind of would like to know that I got a message. If the phone is not locked that means I am probably using it and that is when I get a sound. Maybe I am missing something here, but I should hope to get a sound on the phone when it is locked, otherwise I do not know when I get a message. The watch does not always tap either.

I am sure it is some kind of setting because the behavior was the same on the 7 Plus I just replaced with this 13 Pro and it is one of the reaons why I upgraded, only to have the same issue.

OS is 15.2.1

Just noticed in Setttings that my desktop is on there three times and my watch twice. Seems redundant.

Thanks.
