I hate seeing partially correct, but skewed info provided, and the original poster possibly not getting a complete answer.
What may have initially appeared to be some kind of connectivity problem was answered with a possible password solution. (and probably right) It might have helped, but erroneous info was also given that may have have actually discouraged the person to further pursue a resolution.
The two critical things to look for with the problem described in the original question are: (1) making sure your AppleTV is up to date, and... (2) Set up iCloud keychain (PW) & Two-factor authentication for Apple ID.

The problem in the original post -- it was suggested that an Apple TV 3rd Gen TV is obsolete, when in fact - it's not. Personally, we have both 3rd Gen, and 4K AppleTV versions (several) in our home and all still stream, AppleTV+, and more. One thing you can't do with 3rd Gen is add new apps, which kinda of sucks, but it's still very useful.
Other:
There's contradictory info regarding the 3rd Gen AppleTV being able to operate as a home hub for the Apple HomeKit platform. It doesn't support Remote Access to HomeKit enabled cameras. I'm not sure about "automation.' https://discussions.apple.com/content/attachment/761232040
