The iPad Air4 has a TouchID sensor incorporated within the Top (Sleep/Wake) button.

Without some idea as to your iPad model, it is impossible to provide definitive comment - but consider this…

TouchID requires a “sensor” - this sensor being built-in to either the Top (Sleep/Wake) or physical Home Button of iPad models equipped with TouchID. iPad models that feature FaceID are not equipped with a TouchID sensor - any more than models with TouchID are equipped with the forward-facing camera/sensor array that is required for FaceID.

Some very old models of iPad have neither TouchID nor FaceID.

So, which model of iPad do you have?

Identify your iPad model.
