Face ID has stopped working on my iPhone 12 Pro

I have recently changed service provider and ported my old phone number to my iPhone 12 pro. That process completed this morning.


This afternoon my face id stopped working and I'm unable to reinstate it. The phone seems to be unable to recognise that I actually have a face. I tried trimming my rather significant beard, but that didn't help. When I had failed for about the 5th time to make it work, I asked my wife to stand in to see if she could make it work, and she couldn't.


I completed a software update (15.2.1) after numerous failures but it still won't work. I get as far as the camera, but the message "Your face is not in the frame" stays, even though my face is in the frame.


Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Reading the first of those mentioned cleaning the truedepth camera There was the tiniest speck on it - so small that I could hardly see it. Once I had cleaned that, it worked first time.

If your Face ID is not working, see this, If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support and this If an alert says Face ID has been disabled on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support. If neither help, then use the Get Support link at the top of the page here to contact Apple Support for service, or make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store.
