Green text with/without blocking

My friend whom I can argue with is turning the text from blue to green at will with the green being labeled sent as text sometimes I am blocked other times I am not. They are just changing the colors to mess with me. Is there any way to tell if I’m being blocked or just messed with. And how is this being accomplished ? The color changes done at will? I know if I’m. Blocked or not by dialing the #. But would like to be able to figure it out without dialing.
