Google requires completing authentication in your web browser. (Apple Mail and Calendar, macOS Monterey)

I had to change my Google password. Now, every time I open Mail or Calendar in macOS Monterey, I get this notification and this message from Mail/Calendar:

Enter the password for the account “name@domain.com”.

Google requires completing authentication in your web browser.

I can Cancel or choose Open Browser.

Clicking Open Browser pops open an empty window that just spins and spins, but nothing ever happens.

In older versions of macOS, Safari would open, and I would be prompted to log into Google, and the problem would resolve.

Has anyone resolved this issue?

This did not work.

The solution was to change my default browser from Safari to Chrome in System Settings > General.
