Macbook crashes when sleeping while charging

Hi

Since a while ago, my 2016 12" Retina Macbook crashes every time I leave it charging and sleeping.

It doesn't do that when I plug it when working on it, but then I close the lid, leave it charging, and the next morning when I open it, it shows a black screen with a flashing folder with a question mark.

If I close it unplugged, the next morning it's fine.

What can I do?

MacBook, macOS 12.0

Hi varanda,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. We understand when you leave your MacBook plugged in with the lid closed you see a folder with a question mark when opening the MacBook back up, and we'd be happy to provide you with the best steps.

For help with this particular issue, give the steps listed in the following resource a try: If your Mac starts up to a question mark - Apple Support

If you continue to have issues after the steps listed in the resource above, then we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly using the contact Apple Support link in step 5.

We hope that's able to help.

Take care!
