Open a Browser.

type in the address bar:

1.1.1.1

if you get the CloudFlare splash page your internet connection is working, but your Domain name server (DNS) aka Internet phone number lookup is not working.

(CloudFlare is NOT part of the solution here -- they just own the absolute simplest, easiest to remember numeric IP address.)

… Which also happens to be a DNS server. 😉

It is ironic, isn't it!

That page may indeed be a DNS server page, but CloudFlare will answer http: requests to 1.1.1.1 with a splash page, which is what was to be accomplished, without having to do a regular DNS lookup.

This also has been used to good effect when a login page is required (such as at a hotel with restricted service) but web Browser request are ineptly blocked rather than being intercepted. (possibly because they require a DNS request, but you don't have authorization yet).
