Locked Notes with Touch ID now not accepting Touch ID

In OS Monterey (latest version) I locked a note with a password and Touch ID enabled. For many days I could unlock the note using my Touch ID. But two days ago, without any changes in the Notes preferences or configurations, it asks only for the password to unlock and does not show the possibility to enter Touch ID. It looks like this:

But the lock icon should look like this:

Is this a bug of the Notes app? or since I set the locking password along with Touch ID, could I retrieve the password from the keychain? for the moment a don't find any password of Notes in my keychain...

Considerations:

  • Obviously I forgot the password!
  • I left unchecked the "Enable the On My Mac account" option
  • I already "force quit" and reopened Notes
  • I already restarted my device
  • My locked note is in my iCloud account
  • My Touch ID works perfectly in everything else!

Thanks in advance!

Hey mro1868,

It sounds like you have a concern with locked notes requiring the password instead of Touch ID as it usually does.

There are a few reasons why you might be required to enter the password instead of Touch ID. Check them out under "If you need to enter your passcode" here: If Touch ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.

If you don't know the password for the locked notes, then there isn't a way to access those notes. You can only create a new password for the new notes. You can learn more under "If you forgot your notes password" here: How to lock notes on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support.

Take care.
