Using 10.11.6 can not open mail. Quits as soon as it appears.
What happens when the computer is stared in Safe Mode ?
Safe Mode will do a Repair Disk, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts.
It boots slowly - normal.
To boot into Safe Mode immediately hold the SHIFT key until the Apple Logo is presented and then release the key.
Hold the Shift key and launch Apple Mail

we are having the same problem with opening email. anything i do that is suggested here is not going to erase any existing or saved emails correct??
