Brightness and Volume Sliders not working

The touch bar brightness and volume sliders are not working, nor is Siri and the keyboard image. However the emoji and esc sliders are working.

The first time this happened, restarting solved the problem. Unfortunately, not the case now.

About 2 weeks ago it was like someone had taken control of my laptop - sliders going up and down etc. Restarted and the problem disappeared.

I set up a new admin account and the new account has the same issue.

I'm using a 2019 MacBook Pro - 2,4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 - I've tried resetting the SMC and the NVRAM/PRAM as advised, with no improvement.

I was using OSX Big Sur when the issue started, I am now using OSX Monterey and I've still got the same issue.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks.

Hello pollyfromfr,

From your post it appears you are having multiple issues with your MacBook Pro.

Setting up a new account was a good step.

We would suggest that you start the system in what is called safe mode. This will help isolate this issue.

To start in safe mode, begin with the computer powered off. Follow the directions found here, depending on what type of Mac you have: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

The computer will take longer to start in safe mode, and the screen may have some distorted video as it starts up. This is normal. Once you are logged in, use the system and test to see if the issue continues.

If everything seems to work as expected, go ahead and restart the computer normally and test again. Starting in safe mode forces the computer to run some disk checks similar to First Aid. This can resolve some issues.

Cheers.
