M1 MacBook Pro 2021 12.0.1 loses internet using Cisco Anyconnect 4.9.05042 resolves on reset

I have a 2021 mbp with 12.0.1 and cisco anyconnect 4.9.05042.

after 1-2 days of use the ability to browse to web pages suddenly stops. WiFi, ethernet and vpn show green but chrome and safari can’t find web pages. Sometime chrome works and safari doesn’t but usually both just say no internet. Restarting the entire Mac always fixes the problem but this is a major hassle. Since restarting Mac always fixes there is no issue with my WiFi network and the problem affects other coworkers on their home networks with their new M1 macs also.

The following do not help:

disconnect wifi
switch between WiFi and Ethernet via usb adaptor
disconnect or reconnect Cisco anyconnect vpn. It’s happens with or without active VPN connect. No correlation to being connected or disconnected
renew DHCP lease
check date/time etc
sleep wake
nothing noteworthy in activity monitor

having to reboot my brand new high-end Mac every two days is disappointing. I would appreciate, if nothing else, a terminal command to restart the network stack without having to reboot the whole operating system.

I was able to open a trouble ticket with Cisco and worked with an engineer. Cisco has acknowledged the defect (BugID: CSCvy23333). It is marked as fixed but not yet released (as of 4.10.05085). See https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCvy23333 (Account creation required)

I have fought this problem for months on my Macbook Pro M1 14" and finally have it working 95% of the time. In my case, removing the Cisco AnyConnect VPN to my work was the fix. I still need to connect to the office, so, now I am using the same connection but on Windows 11 Preview in Parallels, and I Remote Desktop from their. It's a pain, but it's the only solution I have found.

IF I am reading this correctly, the problem appears to be with IPv6. That is not a feature I need, so I disabled it following instructions here: How to disable the IPv6 on macOS - ProtonVPN Support. I just reinstalled the Cisco configuration and will test from home tonight. If this works, thank you!

I disabled IPv6 on my 2021 MacBook Pro m1 14" last night. Since, then I have been able to keep a stable connection with Cisco VPN to my office. This was disconnecting several times per hour and has been solid since I made the change. Along the way to this solution, I did also disable Bluetooth and made other settings changes. I am not sure if this is "the" fix, but at least it is a necessary piece of the puzzle for me. Thanks for the help!

This seems to be a really frustrating issue with multiple other reports.

Is there any workaround to reset the network stack without having to restart the whole machine? It may relate to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN being present but the issue happens randomly every few days without regard to VPN status.
