Microsoft Silverlight

I just purchased a MacBook Pro. I do business with the City of NY. The NYC Dept of Buildings requires Microsoft Silverlight to upload pictures. This is a discontinued produce but the DOB still uses it. How do I get that program on a new MacBook?

Microsoft discontinued Silverlight for Mac back in Dec 2016. It is 32-bit software and cannot run on macOS Catalina or later. You cannot use Windows 10 and Silverlight in a virtual machine on an M1 Mac either.

You have probably inquired already, but one would hope that the DoB would offer an HTML5 web solution for uploading files for those that no longer have access to a working Silverlight.

Parallels does offer the ability to run on an M1 Mac.

That said, the City of New York Department needs to be very concerned about Section 508. Limiting its services to outdated software reduces their accessibility, which as a public agency with possible Federal funding, the public could complain about.

I would contact the mayor's office and let them know that if they don't update their software, you will make a complaint.
