iPhoto OS Mojave

How do I install iPhoto on OS Mojave? I currently have a mid 2010-MBP, OS HS 10.13.6, iPhoto 9.6.1. iPhoto shows in the purchased tab in the App store.

Like me, this MBP is showing it's age and iPhoto is reminding me of that fact lately by showing me a beach ball (telling me not to go to the beach!) or even simply freezing. My wife uses iPhoto exclusively. I know, move on to Photos. Happy wife??? You know the rest. I can't move on. She's in her comfort zone. No teaching new tricks!

My solution is to buy a used, 2015 MBP from OWC with OS Mojave installed. iPhoto isn't included with OS Mojave software. Can I simply migrate the iPhoto app (and library) over to the (new?) MBP or if I sign into the App store with her ID and go to "purchased", will there be an install tab and I can simply download it?

If I migrate, will it take the photo's with it? If I download it, can I drag and drop the iPhoto library from the pictures folder? Is one way better or safer than the other?

I have to transfer my iTunes library as well but that's another forum question.

Thank you.

  1. iPhoto is dead. It was taken out and shot 7 (count them, seven) years ago. Tell your wife to stop flogging a dead horse. Photos.app is not the only possibility in this area. Check out Mylio for instance. I think it feels closer to iPhoto. iPhoto never came with the OS.
  2. Log into the App Store and see if it will allow you to download. No idea if it will. But that's your only hope.
  3. Copy the library from the Pictures Folder of the old machine to the Pictures folder of the "new" machine. That's how you move the photographs.
