Text Alerts on iPhone 13 Pro Max not Playing/Vibrating

I have my Text Tone set to a homemade .m4r file with Vibration enabled (I have a handful of homemade .m4r files that I've been using for several years on every iPhone I owned.)

When I got an iPhone 13 Pro Max last fall, the text alert (both sound and vibration) were not happening. I checked that my .mp4's were synced to it and they were. In "Sounds & Haptics" > "Text Tones", I selected another tone and immediately re-selected my preferred text tone. This fixed the problem but not permanently.

Periodically, the alerts (both sound and vibration) stop and then unselect and reselect the tone to fix it. What is causing it to stop the text alerts? My iPad hasn't had this problem -- it alerts me on every new text message.

I currently have iOS 15.2.1 installed.

I have the automated DND set between 10pm and 7am.

Hello philfnyc1,

Apple Support Communities is a great place for help with your iPhone 13 Pro Max and the ring tones. It sounds as though the tone stops working unexpectedly, but changing to a different tone, then back to your desired tone provides temporary resolution.

To confirm, have you chosen a different tone to test for a period of time? For example, if the tone in question stops working after 24 hours, does the same happen with another tone? If not, have you tried unsyncing and syncing the tones back to your iPhone? If you haven’t, this may be a helpful step in resolving the issue.

You also mentioned Do Not Disturb. In addition to Do Not Disturb, have you checked other Focus settings to verify those are not enabled at the time the issue occurs? If not, this can be a helpful step as well. You can find more information about Focus via the following link.

Use Focus on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care!
