Why are my airpods cutting in and out?

Recently my airpods have started cutting in and out, for example I will be listening to a podcast and every ten to fifteen seconds or so the audio cuts off for a second for no discernable reason. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so how did you deal with it? I tried resetting my iPhone, and going into the Bluetooth settings and forgetting the device but neither worked. I don't really want to buy a new pair if I can avoid it because of how pricey they are, but its incredibly annoying to keep having my podcasts interrupted and having to rewind to hear what I missed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
