OS backup compatibility

Can I use an old back up of my High Sierra to move my files onto a new Monterey OS without issues?

There should be little to no problems except for apps.

Mojave which was right after HIgh Sierra was the last version to run 32 bit apps so you need updates to run those apps in Monterey. Some devices may also require updated drives and for some the drives are not available for Monterey.


I would recommend only migrating the user (which includes data like documents) and not apps or even system setting
