Naming people in photos

For the past few months I can not name people. Every time I try the circle appears in the center of my picture with a blank for the name. I can fill in the correct name but when I go to resize the circle or try to move the circle over the person's face a miniature of the whole picture appears. I can drag the latter all over the place but as soon as I release my mouse the circle effectively returns to the center of the picture. Which ultimately means that I can't name and new pictures. I've tried rebuilding my library to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestions?

For me, naming the face with the circle in the wrong place worked. After that, the faces circle could be adjusted and dragged to the correct face.

The Digital Wonder posted an additional work-around - to click once outside of the faces circle. After this, the circle can be dragged and adjusted, see: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253532810?answerId=256718354022#256718354022. This is working even better.
