Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Bluetooth mouse disconnects and reconnects frequently on iMac 27-inch, Late 2013.

My spouse's 27-inch Late 2013 iMac seemingly randomly disconnects and reconnects the wireless mouse. Software is 10.15.7 (19H1615), Catalina.


Here is what I have tried to resolve the problem, non of which worked:

Tried with two different Magic Mouse, and two different Magic Mouse 2. All mice behave the same way on this computer, but behave normally on other computers.

Connected, disconnected, reconnected the mouse.

Reset NVRAM.

Deleted the Bluetooth preference list and HIToolbox.plist.

Safebooted.

Factory reset the mouse connection (Debug menu).

Reset the Bluetooth module.

The last thing I tried was ran Console and searched for bluetooth in the most recent system.log.


Looking at the entries when I think this was happening, I see these statements:

Is there a hardware failure?

The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!


1.     Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.

2.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

3.     Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

4.     Turn off Bluetooth

5.     Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

6.     Restart the computer normally.

7.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

8.     Turn on Bluetooth

9.     Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

10.  Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.
