My brand new Apple Pencil is not working

We purchased a new Apple Pencil and a new iPad, but cannot get the pencil to connect to the new iPad. It doesn't appear to be charging. We can place it (flat side down) on the (magnetic?) spot where it connects to iPad, but the charge does not appear on the iPad screen.


Any suggestions?

You purchased the wrong version Pencil.

The 2021 9th gen, 10.2 inch screen iPad uses the original, older 1st gen Pencil.

You need to return this 2nd gen Pencil and purchase the 1st gen Pencil, instead.


Both Pencils charge and pair differently.
