Conflict between AppleTV and SkyQ

Very strange one. I have both Apple TV (3&4) and SkyQ connected to Sky Broadband.


Until to day they worked fine. Today when I try to play a TV program (or anything else) on the AppleTV it selects everything fine, even the up next option, but when I try to play it I just get the spinner. If I power off the SkyQ box it plays OK.


Both devices connect via Wi-Fi and as I said up until today (25th January 2022) they worked fine so I am thinking a software update has broken it. If though I take the ATV into a different room it appears to work, but I need to investigate this further.


Any ideas on what to try?

You're welcome. Be aware that looking at internet connection or signal strength on the boxes themselves will not give a complete picture. You would need to run a diagnostic report yourself (as advised above) in order to get an accurate reading for your overall signal strength for the network, this will also allow to see channels with other networks and any noise detected.


Using ethernet was meant as a means to help troubleshoot by testing wired vs wireless. However, if the issue does rectify itself by that method then using the power line adapter would be a great alternative for the longterm.

Thanks for this I will certainly have a look. Sky did have a look and they can see signal strength to both boxes appears to be OK. I will certainly look at channels on the wifi as the router obviously has been set up with the defaults at this stage.


Issue with ethernet is it is about 40m from the router with no direct route, I will try with cable across the floor for now.


Very strange that one day it was working and with no changes to the environment (unless overnight software update) it fails. I will also look at power line adapters as I have some leftover from the BT debacle (another long story).
