In your case it sounds like a "burnt in" focus error that is part of the recording and cannot be changed.
Wider lens or Manual focus will be some next steps for a better recording.
Using an iPhone 13 may have got you over the line with its Rack Focus feature.

Thank you for your response. The issue is Focus Hunting. I've got an over the shoulder shot of a pianist and the Sony autofocus is hopping back and forth between the shoulder and keyboard. I've tried using the stabilizer filter in FCPX which fixes the lens zooming in and out, but it doesn't address the image going in and out of focus. Will sadly have to ditch that take. Next time, I'll use a wider lens so I have a bigger depth of field.
Do you mean focus hunting, like autofocus searching rapidly back and forth?
Or focus breathing like apparent focal length of lens/barrel distortion changing as focus changes over time?
