iTunes doesn't see iPod Shuffle v4

iTunes v12.12.2.2 doesn't see iPod Shuffle v4, but Win 10 v21H2 sees it correctly, and shows the name assigned to the iPod. Apple Mobile and Bonjour services are running and Win 10 says the latest driver is installed.

With iPod connected via USB and green status LED, there's no Device icon next to Music in iTunes. When I put a CD into PC's drive, a disc icon appears, and as soon as I eject the disc, the icon disappears.

Diagnostics say:

iPod Support Service not installed

iTunes Helper not running

No iPod...found

How do I fix this?

hero1321,

Thank you for that information. Glad to hear that reinstalling iTunes helped somewhat and that some progress has been made. Perhaps at this point, you may want to Contact Apple Support for more specific assistance to get the rest of the way to resolution of the issue.

Cheers.

Hello hero1321,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your iPod shuffle is not being recognized by iTunes. You have taken some good initial steps for the issues. We would recommend starting with this article to address the issue:

If your computer doesn’t recognise your iPhone, iPad or iPod - Apple Support

If you continue to have issues, you can try deleting iTunes and reinstalling it.

Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support

If removing and reinstalling doesn't do the trick, based on the troubleshooting steps you have already performed, we would suggest you go ahead and contact Apple Support for service options.

Best regards.

MichelleT18 - Thanks for the suggestion. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes in Win 10. That seems to help, at least a little...

After the reinstall, iTunes may see it once out of ~3-4 tries, when Shuffle is connected before launching iTunes the first time. Win 10 always sees it as a mobile device and as a disk storage device, even when iTunes won't. And yes, my Shuffle has >500 MB free.

When the Shuffle icon doesn't appear next to Music in iTunes the first time I open it, I have to close/open iTunes several times before it may show up. Sometimes iTunes will only see the Shuffle if I put an audio CD in the drive. The disk icon appears immediately and then the Shuffle icon may suddenly appear next to it.

Was able to load some new tracks from my library yesterday after multiple attempts, which is an improvement, but something still isn't right. I don't want to spend hours trying to do something that previously took only minutes.

Any other suggestions...?

Thank you.
