There was never a free program and the promotional program ended on the last day in 2018. It was $29 plus tax in the United States, but in India it varied because Apple doesn't provide direct service and "Apple Authorised Service Providers" in India are independent operators who are free to charge their own price and may even charge for a diagnostic before performing a battery service. Some opted not to participate because they weren't making any money from the program.

The only free battery replacement program was for the iPhone 6s, and that has since expired. The 6 Plus is tricky because in many areas, Apple has withdrawn repair support.

they use a proper channel-use their own site and related pages to update customers. Apple will not individually inform you, and if you have been using apple products for a long time as you claim- you should be aware how it works.

You are completely misunderstanding the issue with the way Apple was penalized. If you have an iPhone 6 or 7, and the battery is deteriorating (as every battery manufactured will do), you need to have it replaced at your cost. Apple’s attempt to slow down the processor to prevent crashing is totally irrelevant for a device that has a worn out battery. You are entitled to nothing.

You seemed to have heard about some program. I don't normally mention them, but all the Apple tips and rumors sites were reporting it. Every major world wire service was reporting on it. Local newspapers and television stations were reporting it. Apple had it on their website for anyone coming to ask about batteries. Several of the DIY sellers were running their own promotions trying to match or even undercut Apple's prices. It was a huge topic of discussion on Apple Support Communities. This was not anything that Apple was trying to hide. It wasn't a safety recall though, and in any case tracking down customer was hardly an easy thing to do. But it was absolutely crazy. Early on, it was nearly impossible for me to get an appointment at any nearby Apple Store for almost any service, as they were devoting as many techs and support staff towards providing the battery service. I didn't end up getting the replacement until November when the craze had died down.

Apple had last week published an apology letter to it customers for slowing down performance of older iPhones like iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone SE and the iPhone 7. Apple had also announced it was planning to reduce the price of replacement batteries from $79 to $29, which was a price cut of $50. In India, the price of replacement batteries was slashed from Rs 6500 to Rs 2000, plus taxes. Now the battery replacement program has gone live in the US and across the world.

Apple confirmed that customers in India can now go and change the batteries at the new reduced pricing. All iPhone 6 and above users are eligible to get their batteries replaced. The program will run till December 2018 globally, with Apple offering battery replacement at lower prices. The company said in a statement, “We expected to need more time to be ready,but we are happy to offer our customers the lower pricing right away. Initial supplies of some replacement batteries may be limited.”

There is no free battery replacement program. If you need or want a new battery, you will need to pay the same price as everyone else.
