Unable to delete the user account ... An error occurred while backing up this user’s home folder

While tying to delete my old user account via account manager in System pref, and to back it up as disk image in /Users as suggested, I get "Unable to delete the user account ... An error occurred while backing up this user’s home folder".

The home dir is 234G, I have 580 GB available on /, Mac OSX Monterey 12.1, and I did:

sudo chown -R <user>:<group> /Users/<user>
sudo chmod -R o+r /Users/<user>

where <user> is the thing to delete, <group> is a group that all users are part of.

Any help?

I don't know that this helps but see below for the Get Info window for top-level folder for "Example User".

Since you have sufficient storage you can also use the Disk Utility (File>New Image>Image from Folder...) to create your own backup disk image.

No it doesn't, even after granting full disk access to Sys Pref... Overall, this is weird, account deletion should ask admin password and proceed, I have no graphical way to delete a user account, could this actually be a bug?!
