Camera app closes when opening it in Messages

Hi,

I just got my iPhone 13. upgrading from iPhone 11.

But there is somethign strange happening.

When I’m in a conversation in Messages, and want to open the camera to take a photo, the camera disappear immediately. Then I have to open it up again and then it will let me take pictures and add to the conversation. Tho sometimes when I open the camera app through messages it’s ll black.

The camera works fine and I’m able to take pictures directly through the Camera app itself, but not when in conversation.

I have tried resetting all settings with no luck, I also just updated to iOS 15.3, with no luck.

This is so annoying. I have not found any other users with this issue.

Please help, thanks in advance

Hello sikiduck,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It looks like the Camera option within the Messages app is greyed out on your iPhone, and doesn't work as expected. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

To get started, let's check if any restrictions have been enabled on using the Camera within the Messages app. Here's how to check:

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Under: "Allow changes to privacy settings"

Also, try to restart your iPhone

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

Hello sikiduck,

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. We understand having issues using the Camera within the Messages App. Let's continue working on this together.

Does the issue persist after disabling Screen Time, or any other restrictions on your iPhone?

Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Are you part of a Family Sharing group? If your device was set up as a child's device, the Family organizer can restrict the settings on your iPhone.

If that doesn't apply, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support to investigate this issue further. You can reach out to them here: Get Support
