VNC connection to iMac results in black screen

I am running Monterey 12.1 on a 21.5-inch, 2017 iMac. I've enabled Remote Management and within this enabled screen sharing via VNC.

When I connect to this iMac via a remote VNC viewer client all I get is a black screen on the viewer. Also, the mouse pointer on the iMac, which I have enlarged via the Accessibility System Preferences pane, reverts back to the iMac original size. I have to go back to the Accessibility pane and reset it to the size I had previously set.

This behaviour indicates to me that the VNC viewer connection has some connection to the iMac if the iMac's mouse pointer size is changed. However, there is no desktop or any other function being passed back to the VNC viewer client.

Now that I've updated to 12.2 of Monterey, the desktop connection now works. I get a desktop the same as I see on my iMac.

However, the mouse cursor size on my iMac is still changed as soon as the VNC connection is made. Upon VNC connection the iMac's mouse cursor size reverts to the default size. I have to go back to the System Preferences -> Accessibility pane and reset it. And, interestingly, in this pane the mouse cursor size on the slider is already at the size I set it to. I just have to click on this slider and the mouse cursor reverts back to the size I had it set to before the VNC connection.

I use screen sharing (from a Windows VNC client) from time to time but never noticed this issue. I'm now on Monterey 12.2.

Pie Lover,

The only reason I use VNC Viewer is due to my iMac periodically hanging when in sleep mode. And I've found that this is due to the mouse and keyboard losing BT connectivity to the iMac. So, rather than power cycling the iMac I wanted to use a VNC desktop to see if I can re-establish the BT connectivity to the mouse and keyboard. Due to the issue with no desktop prior to 12.2 I've not been able to try this. Now I can.
