Even when using AppleTV

Welcome back julo-satran,

Per our page Control Apple TV with iOS or iPadOS Control Center in the "Adjust the volume" section, "Note: This works only with supported audio/video receivers. For information about setting up Apple TV to control your TV or receiver, see Control your TV and volume with the Siri Remote." As this may not work with all models of TV, it's best to contact your TV manufacturer to verify if this is a supported function and also to learn if additional steps may be necessary if supported.

Thanks!

Hello julo-satran,

We understand you wish to control your TV volume using your Apple TV remote and this is not working as expected. We're happy to offer some suggestions that may help.

Have you checked out If you can't control your TV or receiver with your Apple TV Remote yet? There is a sub-section in that article specifically for "Program your remote for volume" which may be necessary.

If those steps don't help, it would be best to consult your TV manufacturer for additional options and compatibility of this feature.

Cheers!

The answer is probably correct but not helpful 😍. I have a perfectly functional Sony Bravia with a HDMI-CEC more than 5 years old. The CEC supports Power On/off but doesn’t say anything about volume or anything else nor does Sony answer any questions about it. By removing the IR transmitter in newer Iphones Apple has probably killed many TV remote applications in their Appstore and should state so upfront. It is no big loss but it is annoying to have to find this out by trial and error.

I would like to add (and love to have Apple follow-up on it) - My Sony-Bravia, like many other TV sets on the market, is an AndroidTV based device. Within AndroidTV there are/must-be APIs to control the audio level (and many other functions).

Apple could provide an Apple-Companion app for AndroidTV that could communicate with the iPhone remote (and others) using WiFi (available on all Apple devices) and offer it on the Play Store or the individual TV store (Sony has such a store). I am aware I am touching a "religiously" sensitive point - but it would be good for the consumer 😀
