Hi Steve,
Thanks for your advice.
One of the reason I used the Canon software, was for the feature of PDF Compact.
So when I scanned documents, its very small file size... But the applications crashes more than it functionality :(
I hope Canon have an upgrade version soon...
Rgds,
As I said, I have had a multifunction Canon printer/scanner/copier since 2011. It came with a convenient set of integrated tools for all of the functions. As time has gone by (now 11 years ...) one by one the tools stopped working. In some cases Canon indicated that versions above xxx of the MacOS were not supported. Eventually, I switched to use of Image Capture or scanning through the Printers & Scanners preference pane. All scanner options are still there.
As for shrinking the size of pdfs, the key here is reducing the size without losing image quality. BlueberryLover suggested an online method for having a third party reduce the pdf size. BUT ... I would never upload personal data to such a web site; if your pdfs are just ordinary things that you don't mind strangers seeing, then that site could work well and it appears to be free!
I use PDF Expert, an app that is not free but it is relatively inexpensive. It shrinks pdfs very effectively and I don't have to share personal information with anyone, and I have had documents go from 150 MB to 2 MB and the difference is almost impossible to discern between them. Also, it will handle documents larger than the 100 MB limit of the online free tool.
So you have some options. The online free option, or various paid up apps, PDF Expert is one I am familiar with, but there are many others.
