How do I play audio through Iphone when connected to CarPlay

Hi there,

I am trying to find out how I can play audio through my iPhone when it is connected wirelessly to Apple Carplay. When I try to play it through the phone speaker it reverts back to car speakers, and if I select radio in the car it pauses the video on the phone.

The reason that this is an issue for me, is that when picking the wife up from work, I put Peppa pig on my phone for the baby to keep her awake, which then plays through the car speakers and not through the phone.

I have tried disconnecting the Bluetooth and somehow it stays connected (no idea how).

Played with various settings in the car and on the phone but have not found a quick solution.

Tried swiping up on iPhone, and selected various things on the now playing widget, and it reverts back to car speakers.

I am sure that I am being thick and am missing something obvious but apart from un-snycing my phone, I can't see it.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Hi kfrodsham,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having some trouble with audio while playing video using CarPlay, correct? If so, we would love to help see if we can get the issue resolved for you. We'd be willing to bet the app and it being video has something to do with it. If you switch from radio to Aux does that change anything?

If you're changing it back to the speaker on your device and it is automatically switching, the best solution for that may be to disable Bluetooth while playing the videos. If you want to make it so it doesn't automatically connect to the vehicle, you can also tap the connection in bluetooth and forget the connect altogether.

If you need help with CarPlay

Please let us know how it goes. We're always happy to help.

Cheers!

Thank you for those details, kfrodsham.

At this point it may be best to reach out to Apple Support directly, so they can dig into it further. If music plays without issue and everything else works as it should when you're not playing video, it may be wise to check with the vehicle manufacturer to see if there are any firmware updates available too. Hi thanks again for replying,

Is there no quick way to disconnect the phone from wireless Carplay?

It appears that it connects using both Wi-fi and Bluetooth, If I turn off Bluetooth it stays connected and if I turn on Wi-fi on phone it auto-turns it off again to maintain Carplay connection.

Its seems a pain to go through the cars settings to disconnect the phone or to go through phone settings to forget the car, if I wanted to take a call in private.

Hi Sharon_419,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have tried to disconnect the Bluetooth, but somehow even with Bluetooth turned off on my phone it stays connected wirelessly to my car via Carplay. If I try to enable wi-fi on my phone it brings up a message stating that Carplay will be disconnected but then turns wi-fi off again and stays connected to the car.

If I change to radio in the car, it pauses the video on the phone, and if the video is played again, the audio comes from the car.

This happens when viewing videos via app or via a browser on phone.

Is this a feature of wireless Carplay?

Thanks again
