The final word from Apple on Managing the " Other " Category
Other: Contains files that don’t fall into the categories listed here. This category primarily includes files and data used by the system, such as log files, caches, VM files, and other runtime system resources. Also included are temporary files, fonts, app support files, and plug-ins. You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending on the current state of your Mac.
You need 26 GB of free space to install Monterey. See the previous link on how to free up space.
I have a MacBook Air and am trying to update from Mac OS Big Sur 11.6 to Monterey. When I check iCloud storage it says that I have 50 GB of which 5.01 GB is available. I can download the Monterey software but it won't install and says there is not enough memory on the target drive. I am not familiar with the term "boot drive" My MacBook Air HD storage says it has 18.67 GB available of 121.02 GB. I am not sure I understand what to do next to free up significant space.
The boot drive is the internal drive of the computer. With only 18 GB empty space use any of the suggestions from both Old. Toad or P. Phillips ( me ) to try and remove large files on the internal drive
