Since updating to iOS 15.3, my car won't stay connected; bluetooth keeps connecting and disconnecting

I've never had this issue before this update - but now, my phone keeps disconnecting from bluetooth in the car, and then back on again (every 30s cycle or so); I have an Audi 2012 - so this is bluetooth only - not CarPlay.... although my phone also is having issues with this iOS version on CarPlay in a 2022 Edge.

I have:

  • rebooted the phone
  • turned off the bluetooth on the phone and restarted
  • removed the car from the list of remembered devices and re-connected from scratch
  • turned off my iWatch completely (as this was in some discussions as a potential fix); this did not fix the disconnect behaviour

I have repeated the above steps in multiple sequences, to no avail.

Any other suggestions from anyone?

All I can ask of Apple is to please fix bluetooth issues in the next dot-release asap.

15.4.1 resolved this issue, although I did have to remove and then re-pair the bluetooth with my cars.

Same here. iPhone 12, problems started after iOS 15. 2013 BMW.

Connection is iffy - sometimes connects, sometimes spins forever trying. When connected, I can play music but I can’t answer the phone, or if I answer on my handset it’ll keep ringing in the car, or sometimes I can’t do anything. Phone will think it’s playing music but the BMW radio will say “please wait” viewing the phone.

Last straw was when it interfered with a 911 call. I’ve removed device entries from both phone and radio since and am unwilling to reconnect them again.

Meanwhile, my partner’s Android works fine in that car, as does my phone in my slightly newer Subaru (still without Car Play).

I guess either switch to a non Apple phone or get a newer car?

Sorry to report that I discovered today that iOS 15.5 has broken Bluetooth functionality in my ‘17 Chevy Bolt EV. I’m back to the problems that existed under 15.3.x and were resolved by 15.4.x.

Of course, I deleted the car from the phone, deleted the phone from the car, rebooted the phone and the car’s audio system, then re-paired, and still no-go. If I do the audio-output toggle from

the phone after initiating a call from the steering wheel controls — switch to the iPhone’s speaker, then back to the car’s system — it will work, but that’s neither practical nor safe while driving.

I upgraded to 15.5 last week after reading up on the enhanced security features and the general consensus that it was a smart move to upgrade to it.

Now, I’m on the lookout for 15.5.1…

Guess I’ll start a new thread.
