Itunes large Album art display broken for a long while now.

When I'm playing music on my desktop, Ctrl + click the small art icon

up next to the volume slider was designed to show large album artwork. This has been broken in Itunes for almost a year now .The window that comes up, that would usually show the album art, is now blank.

This is a re-post of the same issue that has been flagged by several users here in the community in the past year.

I really hope this will get fixed (and not become a randomly forgotten Itunes feature) so we can use the latest version of itunes. At the moment I am stuck on 12.11.3.17 due to this issue.

Windows, Windows 10

I'm not sure I understand why you're stuck on an old version of iTunes as a consequence of this issue, but that said, you will be disappointed to learn that the same problem exists in iTunes 12.12.2.2, albeit that my window is transparent, no black.

To be honest, I didn't even know of the feature as I simply neat-click the art icon to pull up the part-sized window with the Up Next list.

You could try Apple Feedback at https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html and select Broken Feature from the drop-down menu on that form. Note that you will not receive any response and that Apple may - or may not, fix the feature, which I agree, is broken.

Well, that's your choice, but I'm not sure I understand why this makes you "stuck" on an out-of-date version of iTunes that doesn't do what you want.

In order to fix the problem (if they ever do) Apple will release a revised version of iTunes with a new release number, but you won't benefit from that until you update to that newer version. At this time, you must be seeing "there's a newer version of iTunes" messages which you may well end up ignoring if you're not already doing so. More than likely then is that you will miss the update that fixes the issue that you care about. But if you updated to the current version of iTunes, the only time that you will see the "there's a newer version..." message is when it might (note the word "might") be the one you want.

But that's not what you do!

Updating iTunes means letting iTunes download and install the new version for you. All you need to do is click the update button. There is always one slight issue; that is that if you have an icon for iTunes permanently added to your Taskbar, it will turn blank-white and become ineffective and you will need to delete it and put a new one in its place. That's not actually a major task - and certainly far easier than uninstalling existing software and then installing the updated version of that software once again.

While deleting and re-installing software (apps) on a portable device, (phones and iPods etc.) is usually a piece of cake, doing so on a Windows machine is a far more onerous task. I dislike doing it.

Hhhmmm! I'm not sure that is such a good idea. Updates to iTunes include fixes to things you may not have noticed (yet), as well as security improvements. Why would you want to run software that might be open to hacking etc.? Not to mention enhanced or new features.

Still, once again it is your choice.

Thanks for your response - I did submit this on Apple feedback a while back but as you suspected, it's neither been acknowledged nor fixed.

I say I'm "stuck" on my old Itunes version only because the full screen album art display is a super important feature to me. I like to have Full screen album art displaying while I have music on in the room, and the Itunes full screen album art actually looks pretty great (and much better than anything other desktop services like Spotify can provide).

I certainly haven't heard of any new features or fixes in more recent Itunes versions that would make me consider forsaking the full screen album art view that I love. But if they could just fix this simple broken feature, it would of course be nicer and easier to run the latest version .

Yeah, I'm certainly not going to go the trouble of uninstalling my old version and installing every new release of Itunes just to see if that important (to me) bug has been fixed. Rather, I'll just keep my finger on the pulse here and on reddit so other users can report back to me if/when it indeed remains unfixed.

But to clarify, I am not literally "stuck" anywhere! It's just worthy of comment (with the hopes of eventual resolution) that there is a bug in Itunes that is significant enough (to me and some other users) that I choose not to follow the normal practice of running the most up to date version of such a common piece of desktop software.

Also, it is indicative of something or other that an unnecessary , eminently fixable bug remains in Itunes for so many versions. No need to pontificate on exactly what it signifies in Apple World, but I feel it most certainly is worthy of comment, not least in the hopes that it gets fixed soon!
