Error in Apple Music on Monterey 12.2 - 'app.js[2031:72] Error: We’ve run into a problem'

There is an error in Apple Music when accessing My Account using the icon in the 'Listen Now' screen. There is a separate thread that claims this has been solved, but as other posts on that thread disagree with the solution I am starting a new thread hoping that Apple will see and address this.

When I click the My Account icon, I get the error shown:

Clicking 'Retry' has no effect. The only way to quit Music when this error occurs is to Force Quit from the Apple menu.

I spent some time on the phone to Apple Support a couple of days ago, including screen sharing with a Mac engineer when it was escalated to the Mac team. He said this is a known issue for which - at the moment - there is apparently no fix. The support engineer took me through using a test account to login, then using Safe Mode, none of which worked. The next step was going to be re-installing Monterey - but we agreed that it might be prudent to wait a few days for a less invasive fix!

One other piece of context that might be relevant is that I signed up for a free trial of Apple One prior to seeing this error. I have had an Apple Music subscription previously several months ago, but this was not current.

This worked for me — reset Wifi/Network settings:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Open Network
  3. Highlight Wifi in the left hand side list
  4. Click the minus (-) button at the bottom of the connections list
  5. Restart your Mac
  6. Reopen Network preferences
  7. Click the plus (+) button at the bottom of the connections list
  8. Select wifi
  9. Turn Wifi on and connect to your preferred network
  10. Restart the Music App — hey presto!

I've cancelled my trial out of sheer frustration so I can't try this anymore... but I got the app.js error specifically when I clicked the account icon in Apple Music on macOS Monterey.

I would then have to force quit the whole program because it'd be stuck in a loop. On my phone Apple Music worked (rather slowly) but I sit most of my working days at my desk and really prefer playing music from the desktop app, over my hifi system.

Will maybe give it another shot in a couple of months, because the catalogue was amazing and I was looking forward to Apple Music suggesting new stuff over time. Oh well.

I've cancelled my trial of Apple Music on account of the bugs. Can't use the desktop app with the same app.js error, and playing tracks in music.apple.com in Chrome or Safari browser give errors too. It also takes ages for a track to get going. The mobile app is fine but also very slow upon first play (though I am willing to pardon that - might be caching).

But I sit at my desk mostly and prefer a standalone app for my music consumption. Am honestly amazed at the buginess and slowness of Apple Music.

Just had this happen after launching the Music app in Listen Now section. It's really annoying having no way of dismissing the error except pressing Retry which does nothing.

I found that you can go to Window and select Switch to MiniPlayer. That then opens up other options from the menu bar, however that error window will remain on top wherever you navigate, so as criszl mentioned the only option is to Force Quit the Music app from the Apple logo or by pressing Command + Option + Esc.

I'm sure Apple has bright software engineers that can fix issues that have been plaguing the Music app since Big Sur. At this point we really don't need any new features add. Let's just focus first on making the app usable. That should be top priority.

I've had the same problem (in Spain), going through the same process, at least 4 call to support... Yesterday, I successfully re-installed Monterey, but the problem persists exactly the same way. The thing is that on the iPhone, music library works well.

I agree with Oliver217, before apple music (to which I just subscribed a month ago) I had an account with SPOTIFY for more than a year, and never had a single issue on any of my Mac product. If they don't solve this type of problems, they'll definitely loose a lot of subscribers.

I have this exact problem. I also signed up for Apple One and I'm in the 1 month trial.

I've tried logging in/out of my iCloud account in System preferences, and I've tried logging in/out of the account in the Music app. I've also tried deleting the preference files for the app. Still the same problem.

Works fine on iOS devices and HomePod, but I can't get it to play anything in the Music app on my MBP 14". I get the app.js[2013:72] error when clicking the user symbol, and most of the time nothing happens when I try playing songs. But once or twice I've gotten an error saying something like "Apple Music is not active on this device" (not sure that's exactly what it says I haven't saved the error and it was a while since I got it now)

I can stream from my iPhone to my Macbook fine though... 😂

I guess something may have changed. I just got the message for the first time. I had re-installed my Monterey because I suddenly ran out of space, partially because of the snapshots filling up my space. I got it working, got the error tonight and I was able to close Music and then reopen it without problems. At least I did not need any highly technical solutions, I just hope it does not come back again soon.
