What's the best settings for the Dell Ultrasharp U2720Q?

Hi Everyone,

I've recently bought a Dell Ultrasharp U2720Q and I have it connected with my Macbook Pro (M1 Pro) and I'm struggling a little bit to get it set up to my needs.

So this is how I have it set up in Dell DM:

The refresh rate is set to 60hz.

Just a bit of background information here:

I'm a graphic and web designer and I usually work with multiple Adobe apps open and running simultaneously, I usually work with files for PRINT and FOR WEB at the same time and switch in between tabs and apps whenever needed.

I also own an iMac 27'' 5K retina and I have both monitors side by side. I'm not using the iMac for design at the moment, it's just for browsing but here's what I'm struggling with:

The difference between the two monitors in: contrast, brightness and sharpness is way more noticeable than I thought it would be, which I get it, I'm not expecting the DELL to have the same quality as the retina display 5K, but what I was wondering is if there is a particular setting(s) that you guys use or suggest that I can try to make the DELL look a bit more similar to the retina display?

As I said above, I'm not expecting them to look the same, but if there are any tricks that I could try to improve the DELL's performance, I would like to give it a try.

Also, the DELL tends a lot more to the Yellow spectrum and the Retina to the Blue, I tried playing with the colour presets in the DELL app (it's set to sRGB at the moment) but didn't see much improvement there.

Should I try a different colour profile in the System Preferences?

Any thoughts guys, I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Well, most of it is preference. Given that, I would at least change the resolution to 3840 x 2160 since that's the native 4k resolution for your monitor. That's where you'll get the best image out of your monitor. However, it's totally up to you and eyestrain or other eye sight related restraints. The lower resolution will obviously be slightly easier to read. But personally I would just change the resolution for a more detailed image display. Then I would go into system preferences and alter the text size if need be. For easier readability, again totally up to you. I'm only suggesting what I would do.

I suppose you are right, most of it is preference and to be honest, I struggled with the monitor at 4K.

The UI scaling bothered me as most apps don't have the option to scale the UI to your preference.

I'm testing it now at 3360 and scaled up the apps that I use the most (but as I said above most apps don't give you that option) so let's see how far my eyes can go with the screen on this resolution.

Thanks for your suggestions tho.
