when you press the spacebar, the active work area is highlighted. For example, I select a photo in the finder and press the spacebar to view the photo and instead the macbook selects the entire folder area.

Does this occur every time you try to preview a photo using the Space bar? "Space bar: Use Quick Look to preview the selected item."
