Blank black screen for videos on safari

my phone when I try to play a video won’t show anything just a blank black screen even if I go full screen and I’ve tried clearing history and updating my phone. Is there anything I can do?

Greetings Elijah_123,

We understand that when viewing videos via Safari on your iPhone, you see a blank black screen. You mentioned your iPhone is up to date, which would be iOS 15.3.

Your question is posted in a macOS category, are you having issues on a Mac as well? Does this situation extend to using other apps to view videos such as the TV app or third-party apps like YouTube? Are you able to view videos via Safari from the Apple website? Here’s the link - Apple Events. This will tell us more about whether the issue is with the content.

Thanks.

Elijah_123,

We’ve covered all the steps in If Safari displays a blank page or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, there is one setting you may be able to change.

In Settings > Safari > Advanced > Experimental Features, locate GPU Process: Media (they are in alphabetical order) and turn that off. Then force quit Safari, relaunch and test again. Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

If there is no change be sure to go back in and enable that setting. Then we're going to recommend reaching out to Apple Support for additional assistance on the matter and you can do that here - Contact Apple Support

Thank you.

Elijah_123,

Does this happen on both Wi-Fi and cellular data? Are you using any type of VPN or security software on your iPhone? If so, can you temporarily remove it, then test again?

A few other things to check -

Settings > Safari > Extensions, if there is anything here let’s temporarily disable it.

Make sure no pop-ups are blocked

Thank you.
