There is no syncing needed/applicable.

You can turn on|off (wake|sleep) the TV by waking|putting to sleep the Apple TV box, if both devices have HDMI-CEC activated.

You can control the volume through IR with the Siri Remote. Verify the setting for that on Apple TV. If your TV or audio system uses non-standard IR control signals, then you can have the Apple TV learn a new device.

You should consider providing more relevant details in your questions here. If an hour on the phone with Apple has failed, do you really think a fellow user will provide your answer based on your opening question? For example, WHICH Apple TV device are you asking about?

I assume your Samsung’s settings haven’t changed. On the ATV, have you tried Settings > Remotes and Devices > HOME THEATER CONTROL / Control TVs and Receivers = On (and) Volume Control = Auto via HDMI? If the latter doesn’t work, there’s an option to have your remote use infrared.

If you don’t see these things under Settings, your ATV must be much older than mine.

I apologize for the snark. The rhetorical question was unnecessary and FWIW I didn’t feel better or worse for having made it. Still don’t. I actually was trying to help by letting you know that even super geeks aren’t clairvoyant. Your frustrated response to @Urquhart1244 asking “what do I do if nothings works…” doesn’t give folks a lot to work with. I also confess to being a bit frustrated since I see a LOT of questions here that don’t include nearly enough info for us average geeks to make a reasonable guess.

If you’ve truly “tried everything”, you’re probably SOL, but I believe you haven’t tried everything (or it would be working again :-).

So let’s see, you did share that you did a factory reset on your ATV… did you also reset your Siri remote? I would give that a try if you haven’t already. Since you haven’t told us which ATV version you have and there are slight differences in the remotes, this Google search should return the right steps for you.

Sorry if this response also seems condescending to you. Best of luck.

But what do I do if nothings works for controlling the tv volume with my Siri remote?

it used to work fine. Then I was getting messages that a couple of unknown email addresses needed to enter passwords - email1@gmail.com AND email2@gmail.com. So I did a factory reset and now I can’t control volume - but I can turn the tv on and off with the Siri remote - but only the led light on the front of the Apple TV blinks when I click volume up or down - nothing actually happens with the volume though. Was on the phone with apple support for over an hour and she had no idea. Very frustrating - I know - 1st world problem but still frustrating. Can anyone help me???

Why do YOU think your condescending response would help me?

I’ve tried everything. Including your suggestion. Was hoping a super geek out there somewhere would have a suggestion for me. That’s obvi not you.

YOU SHOULD consider not responding to a question if you can’t reply without being snarky. Why do you think your comments would help me? Did it make you feel better about yourself to ask me a rhetorical question that helped no one? I thought folks like you used Facebook as their platform for putting strangers they don’t even know down, not apple support.

I appreciate your response. And I overreacted. My question was vague. I’m just so disappointed in humanity all the time - how divided we have all become. I was just looking for someone to sympathize with me rather than call me out negatively.

I suspect my Apple TV remote issue stems from whoever was attempting to hack in to my - idk, account? I guess, however they did. The moderators here retracted the email addresses I posted. Every time I turned the tv on (with my Siri remote) a dialogue box popped up asking me to enter the password for one of the specific email addresses (which were the same except for one number). I was annoyed that I couldn’t get that to stop so I did the dreaded factory reset. Since then everything else works fine, except the volume never synced back up. It’s just annoying and isn’t going to ruin my life or anything, but I just thought I’d try.

thanks

No worries. I concur with your observations on how divided people are… I suspect that the ratio of good people and not-good people hasn’t changed over time so much as the increased power for everyone to communicate broadly without thinking and the profitability of attracting eyeballs with emotionally-charged disinformation.

Anyway, did you also try resetting and reconnecting your remote?
