2. For the answer regarding which security type you use, along with whether it can be changed(IMAP is the newest and most common type), you'd also need to contact Hotmail about this.

Let's now focus on the issue occurring on your Mac with not being able to receive emails:

1. Do you have other email accounts set up in your Mac, like iCloud for example? If yes, please test sending yourself an email using one of those other accounts, and let us know the results.
2. As you mentioned this first began after changing the password for your Hotmail account, how did you update it on your Mac?
