wd my passport hd not recognized on desktop after system update

Thanks for the info. After I updated to Monterrey, the hd was not recognizable. Then I exchanged it for another wd passport which worked until the last update. I am presently reformatting the latter.

Some users have problem with WD drives. See:

Is the drive directly connected to the Mac, not through a hub?
Can you see the drive in Disk Utility?
Can you mount the drive in Disk Utility?
FWIW, I have a number of WD My Passport external USB drives. I have had none of them having any issues accessing them from my 2018 Mac mini, currently running macOS Monterey 12.2. They are formatted in a number of different formats, but are all still accessible and mount on the macOS Desktop when connected.
