Am writing this report to make Apple aware of the failure of its security update 11.6.3 for Big Sur and the false error it throws. Its update fails and returns the error message "Current device configuration is invalid for installation in current state. Please try again. Updating requires 5.56 GB of disk space." even though 7.66 GB of disk space is available. The failure of its update and the error message recurred after system restart.
" Updating requires 5.56 GB of disk space." even though 7.66 GB of disk space is available."
Firstly, as one has outlined above, the update requires 5.56 GB to download, then expand and then Install . With only 7.66 GB empty space this error message could be expected and a failed installation.
Secondly, it is suggested to keep at least 15% of the Drive Total Capacity as Empty Space for good operations of the computer and for additional updates to Big Sur to download, expand and install. Example: Total Drive Capacity is 128GB x 15% = 19 GB Empty Space Available at all times.
The 7.66 GB Empty Space is surely well below the suggested requirements for good computer operations without running into this type of an issue.
