I deleted email account. Tried to add it back and it says account already exists.

Inability to get incoming or outgoing mail. When adding account message says account already exists.

iMac, macOS 10.12

We see you came from If Mail on your Mac keeps asking for your password


If the account already exists, then you can re-enter the information for the account to sign back into it. If you'd like to completely remove it, so that you can add it back as a new account; follow the steps here to remove the account: Remove email accounts in Mail on Mac


Afterwards, you should be able to add the account back without issue.
