Do you need to remove the hard case before charging the Apple Pencil?
I have a hard cover on my iPad. Do I have to remove it to activate my pen?

Activate or charge, 2 different things.
If your iPad has the magnetic connection on the side below the volume buttons, and if your hard cover covers this, then you will not be able to connect your pencil for it to be charged.
