I have just noticed a brown discolouration on the lead where the charger fits into the MBP port and gets very hot. I have been using the charger while the computer is running programs like Netflix and Zwift a lot more lately, what do I need to do. The pins are all fine and the spring loading is ok in them , there is no discolouration on the actual pins or the computer port. Is it safe to use?

No ... stop using it. Take it into Apple Store to see if they are nice and replace it free. But just as likely they will make you pay for a new one.
